A Symbol of Eternal Love

Swans mate for life — and this exquisite handmade stained glass roundel captures that devotion in breathtaking colour. Two swans glide together on a swirl of deep turquoise and teal, their forms painted and kiln fired onto vintage clear glass in a technique as old as the great cathedrals of Europe.

The craft

The background is hand-cut from beautiful turquoise glass with a deep teal swirl. The swans themselves are painted with enamels and kiln fired, with white enamel giving them their luminous plumage. Their beaks are finished with silver stain — a technique developed in the 13th century that gives stained glass its very name, producing colours ranging from deep amber to pale gold. Each swan has a character all of its own, just like real swans.

Crafted using traditional leaded glass techniques by UK artist Clare Maryan Green BA Hons.
